NY Giants Week 8 Postgame: Skattebo Hurt in Eagles Loss

The thrill is gone, baby, as the Giants lose to the Eagles and Cam Skattebo gets injured.

In a 38-20 final score, the Giants fell to 2-6 on the season. They have lost all five of their away games so far in 2025, and the road losing streak is at 10.

If you have a high tolerance for suffering, let’s talk about the latest Giants defeat.

NY Giants Week 8 Postgame: Skattebo Gone

There is no official word yet on Cam Skattebo’s injury as of late Sunday afternoon.

If you saw the injury Skattebo suffered during the game, you are unfortunate. Should you have avoided the video, consider yourself lucky. Fox did not show the replays, opting only to show the Giants players kneeling on the field. Put it this way: When they start doing that, you know it’s bad. Take it from those who saw it happen.

Skattebo had a certain energy that was not only taking the team by storm, but the city. Just before he got injured, the broadcast team was talking about him at the Knicks game. It’s got to be an emotional time for him, but also his team. That sort of energy and swagger is not easily replaceable.

Making matters worse is that the Giants, for now, seem to lack the fortitude to rebound. They are not a good team. They are not a well-coached team. Finally, they are not a team that has shown a lot of constitution in the event of adversity. Certain people may blame their misfortune from this point on Skattebo’s injury, but do not be fooled. There are players like Dart on the team who have a hunger to win, but organizational and coaching incompetence will hold them back.

The Giants Defense

Big Blue had a bad day on that side of the ball. They allowed the Eagles to rush for 276 yards, while Saquon Barkley had his first breakout game of the year. He scored on the second play from scrimmage and never looked in the rearview mirror.

Jalen Hurts also threw four touchdown passes in the win.

A lot of the same criticisms apply from the fourth quarter of the Denver game. The unit is streaky and inconsistent.

And Yes, The Officiating

Several bad calls in the game went against the Giants. You might say the Slayton touchdown being called back on offensive pass interference was big, but a truly crucial call was earlier. The Eagles had their “tush push” play, and Jalen Hurts reached out for the first down. He lost the ball, the Giants picked it up, but “forward progress” was ruled. It was a preposterously early whistle. Philadelphia got a very lucky break.

That play did not cost the Giants the game. There were many other problems, but it was an added level of frustration.

NY Giants Week 8 Postgame: Next Up

Week 9 is back at home against the San Francisco 49ers. While the road has been horrible to the team, they are 2-1 at home so far.

It has been all tales of misery and woe since the first Eagles game, but can they recover? We will find out soon.
