CFB Picks, 2025 Week 0

College football is finally here, and we’ve got the CFB Picks for 2025 Week 0.

Yes, Week 0.  It’s not quite the full Week 1 schedule but it’s not summer training camp, either.  There are real, live college football games to be played, and picks to be made.  You see how this works?

In an ordinary week of college football, we would select a handful of games of interest and make our picks.  However, since it’s a short week, we said what the hell, let’s pick all of them.

CFB Picks, 2025 Week 0

Iowa State vs. Kansas State (-3) | Sat 8/23 | 12pm ET

This year’s Dublin game is by far the best one on the schedule this week, as it is the only one featuring two ranked teams.  The problem is that one is going to lose.

Iowa State and K-State were both in our preseason top 50, so both can hang with the other.  We will go with the favorite.

Straight-Up: Kansas State
ATS: Kansas State -3

Idaho State at UNLV (-24.5) | Sat 8/23 | 4pm ET

From the weekend’s best game to the worst, this is an FCS vs. FCS matchup in Las Vegas.  The only question is if you think the Rebels are going to cover.  Just to keep things interesting, we’ll say no, but one would think they will win in Dan Mullen’s big debut.  If they do cover, it’s because they really wanted to pour it on for their new coach.

Straight-Up: UNLV
ATS: Idaho State +24.5

Fresno State at Kansas (-13) | Sat 8/23 | 6:30pm ET

It may not turn out as well as for K-State, but both Kansas teams might be decent this season.  For the Jayhawks, it starts with taking care of business at home against Fresno State.

Straight-Up: Kansas
ATS: Kansas -13

Sam Houston State at Western Kentucky (-10) | Sat 8/23 | 7pm ET

I’m not totally convinced the Hilltoppers are going to win this game, despite the juicy 10-point spread.  Western Kentucky is predicted to be a C-USA contender, but SHSU is not far off of that pace.  Could be a sneaky good game.

Straight-Up: Western Kentucky
ATS: Sam Houston State +10

Stanford at Hawaii (-2.5) | Sat 8/23 | 7:30pm ET

Aren’t these Hawaii games usually on late?  Anyway, the Warriors open up against an ACC opponent, and they are favored.  Stanford is a potential last-place ACC team, while Hawaii might be a mid-tier MWC team.  We have to pick at least one upset, you know.

Straight-Up: Stanford
ATS: Stanford +2.5
