CFB Top 50, #38: 2025 Washington Huskies

CFB Top 50, #38: 2025 Washington Huskies

Now at number 38 on the CFB Top 50 countdown, we get to the 2025 Washington Huskies out of the Big Ten.

I’m sorry, but Washington and some other regional teams being in the Big Ten is ridiculous. Just like the Apple Cup being played in September. I hope you don’t mind me saying that, and if you do, I don’t know, start your own sports website.

Anyway, the Huskies seem like they are about to move upwards in their second year under head coach Jedd Fisch. They’ve got two new coordinators but some experienced players returning to the field in Seattle. Last season was a bit of a surprising regression for the Huskies, but are they back in 2025? They might be.

OUT – Thaddeus Dixon, defensive back. Transferred to North Carolina.

Best Game on the Schedule in 2025

September 27 vs. Ohio State. Sure, they play Oregon to close the season after Thanksgiving, but you want a big home game? You got one with the national champions heading out to Seattle. A win here, or even a competitive loss, could change how all of us look at U-Dub.

2025 Washington Huskies: Outlook

It’s possible that our expectations for Washington are a little high this season. After all, they went 6-7 last year, but there is reason to hope that 2024 was the aberration, not the one before it when they went to the College Football Playoff. Now, nobody is saying the Huskies are going to the playoffs or anything, but they should be better this year.

Their inbound transfers are mostly upperclassmen, so they added some experience to their 2025 roster. The starting defense will feature mostly upperclassmen, like senior defensive end transfer Ta’ita’i Uiagalelei, who is the cousin of DJ. However, the offense is what needs help in Washington, and it’s almost unthinkable that their offense could be so middling back to back seasons. Quarterback Demond Williams had decent results in limited play last season, and had a great Sun Bowl despite the loss. Let’s see how he does throughout the full year.

If Washington doesn’t start the season 2-0, then you can bin the #38 preseason ranking. That should be their record going into the Washington State game, but then from there, the schedule gets exceptionally tough and never lets up all year. If the Huskies find their way to a winning record through this schedule, perhaps including an upset or two, then they will have had a very respectable season.
