NY Giants Week 9 Postgame: Giants Crumble Against 49ers

Another somber day after, as the Giants Week 9 postgame show ponders the loss to the 49ers by a 34-24 score.

Those of us who were at the game should have known things were looking bad when you got to the stadium and saw all the red waiting at the turnstiles. The trains and cars were full of 49ers fans, who represented their fanbase in force at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. In fact, based on the eye test, there were about as many of them there as there were Giants fans. Not good.

And then, the Giants go and lose the game to San Francisco. What to make of all of it?

Giants Week 9 Postgame: Blech

The Giants had actually gone into this game having won their two previous home games. Both of them were against quote-unquote better teams, and the Giants were an underdog in both. Entering the San Francisco game, the Giants were only 2.5-point underdogs, and the 49ers came into the contest with numerous key injuries. There was some hope that they could find a way to protect their home turf, even as Cam Skattebo and others were injured themselves.

This is not what happened. Following an opening touchdown, the Giants let San Francisco come right down the field and score. The 49ers would then score again, and the Giants trailed the rest of the way.

The Moment That Truly Lost the Giants the Game

Late in the first half, the Giants put some pressure on Mac Jones, the 49ers quarterback. The ball was fumbled, and recovered by the Giants. New York started that drive from the San Francisco 27 yard-line. On the ensuing drive, the Giants got exactly zero yards and then missed a 45-yard field goal. Much more to say about this in the video, but it was an ugly sequence that did nothing to advance the team’s cause.

It also spoke to bigger problems with how the team is run. Do the Giants lack a killer instinct? Do they lack vision? I think you know the answer, but if you have to ask, Bracket Yard answers it.

Giants Week 9 Postgame: Did Anyone Look Good?

Jaxson Dart had a decent game on the stat sheet. Abdul Carter recovered a fumble. Aside from that, I have no desire to lavish praise on anyone.

Do Jaxson Dart and the NYG Playmakers Deserve Better?

They absolutely do. This regime which brought them in has failed them in a number of ways that we discuss in the postgame. Dart so desperately wants to win, and is not used to losing, but he is not being put in positions to win.

Next Up for the Giants

The 2-7 Giants head to Chicago to face the Bears. In the preseason, this looked like a potentially winnable game given how bad the Bears were in the past. However, they are now 5-3 and trying to contend for an NFC playoff bid. This is all aside from the fact that the Giants have lost 10 road games in a row dating back to the 2024 season.
