CFB Top 50, #3: 2025 Georgia Bulldogs

Just three days away from the season, the 2025 Georgia Bulldogs have landed at number three on our CFB Top 50 countdown.

The first big polls of the season were not as high on the Bulldogs as we are. Then again, this isn’t 2005 anymore and you don’t have to be one of the top two teams to have a shot at winning the title. Whether third, sixth, or anywhere in this general neighborhood, one thing we can establish for certain is our belief that Georgia will be a contender in 2025. This is in spite of the fact that they had a mini-exodus for the pros and/or other teams following last season.

Best Game on the Schedule in 2025

November 15 vs. Texas. Legitimately one of the biggest regular season games of 2025, and a rematch of the SEC title game from last year.

2025 Georgia Bulldogs: Outlook

If they are going to win championships this season, Georgia will have to do it with a new quarterback. Despite toying with the draft, Carson Beck ultimately decided to take his talents to Coral Gables. That likely leaves the job to Gunner Stockton, whom Georgia fans have seen before, and they need to hope he is on-point. What sits behind him on the depth chart is quite inexperienced: A whole lot of freshmen, between redshirt and true. Now, Bracket Yard has established in prior previews that an underclassman quarterback surrounded by talent can succeed. Stockton would be no different, but if they are going to win games of consequence, he needs to be ready to take the team on his shoulders.

Georgia’s defense must have been better than a mere 23rd in scoring would suggest, given that they had three players taken in the first round this past spring. This year, they will be breaking in some new starters, but their new projected starting 11 are guys that have been around the Bulldog program; most are upperclassmen. We do not expect a huge drop-off in production because Glenn Schumann has proven a credible defensive coordinator. He is the kind of guy that it wouldn’t be surprising to see him as a head coach in 2026 or 2027. However, while they are starting from a good position, they need to conjure up a top-tier defense if they want to win it all.

The Bulldogs will roll out to a 2-0 start and won’t have to face a genuine opponent until Week 3 against Tennessee, followed by a bye and then Alabama. Nice for them how those big games got spaced out earlier in the year. They have another bye before the Florida game, which, again, is pretty helpful. However, watch that Texas rematch in mid-November. We hope it’s a good game because this might not be the only time these teams meet in 2025.
