CFB Top 50, #30: 2025 Missouri Tigers

College football is just 30 days away, so the 2025 Missouri Tigers are next on the CFB Top 50 countdown.

Mizzou was a ranked team back in 2024, putting together quite the good season, though all of its losses were within the fearsome confines of the SEC. Things may not get much easier in 2025, as Mizzou has had some players to replace in the face of another gauntlet of a schedule. Hey, at least they get to play eight home games while they do it.

In fact, Mizzou won’t play a game outside of their home stadium until October 18. However, how many wins will they have by then, and do they stand a chance of being ranked again this season?

Best Game on the Schedule in 2025

September 6 vs. Kansas. The Border War is back for the first time in 14 years. Conference realignment had robbed us of this game, but it’s finally back. I hope it means as much to the players as it does to the fans, given that the players were children the last time Mizzou vs. Kansas happened.

2025 Missouri Tigers: Outlook

Mizzou could boast some defense last year, and what does defense win? Championships, of course. Not that the Tigers did, by the way, unless you count the Music City Bowl, but this shouldn’t take anything away from what they were able to do on that side of the ball. Pitching shutouts or near-shutouts against the easier teams on the schedule helped. They should at least get a few chances to replicate that feat in 2025.

The thing is, it’s undeniable that Mizzou lost quite a lot on offense. Their starting quarterback is gone, their star offensive lineman was a top-ten pick, and their second-most prolific wide receiver went in the second round. At least Theo Wease, who had the most receiving yards in 2024, is back.

Mizzou will be close enough to the top 25 for us to think that they could be ranked at some point this year. They will have to beat some good teams consistently to stay there, with a new starting quarterback in Columbia. The Tigers have spread out their easier games through the first five weeks of the season, but SEC play will be brutal, with Alabama and Auburn on consecutive weeks. If Mizzou ends up ranked and successful, they will have earned it.
