Some websites might say this ranking is a bit high for the Eagles, and some would point to a difficult schedule as a reason why they might not soar to new heights. However, just like another coach we spoke of entering his second year, Willie Fritz, there is optimism that something good is brewing, with every ultimate reason to believe that the current coach can win at his school given the proper amount of time. Now, let’s be clear: It’s unlikely Boston College will threaten the top 25 unless they rip off a 3-0 start including two road wins, but should they look competitive? Yes, that’s the idea for Bill O’Brien and company.

Best Game on the Schedule in 2025
November 1 vs. Notre Dame. The Holy War comes back to the Heights for the first time in five years. Notre Dame has won the last nine meetings. If the Eagles are worth any bit of a damn in 2025, they will get up for this game, even though the Irish have most of the advantages.
2025 Boston College Eagles: Outlook
Thomas Castellanos is listed as a key loss, but in reality, he got benched mid-season and entered the transfer portal almost immediately thereafter. To the Eagles, he’s been gone for a while.
His successor at quarterback, Grayson James, will probably get the starting job out of summer camp due to his experience. However, any time you have a previously-touted recruit that you lured from Alabama and still has a few years of eligibility left, the temptation will exist. Dylan Lonergan will eventually get the job, it’s just a question of whether or not it’s this season or next season.
The baseline expectation should be that the Eagles in year two of the O’Brien regime will be a well-coached group. Their future outlook is generally promising. The question is, what does that mean for this year? Boston College’s schedule is front-loaded with more winnable games, even in-conference. If a problem exists, it’s that three of their first five are on the road. Their toughest games against Clemson, Notre Dame, and SMU are all at home.
Don’t plan on the Eagles surging to the top of the ACC, but do expect them to show steady improvement.
