Bracket Yard
Moving down to number 27 in the CFB Top 50 countdown, we have the reigning MWC champions, the 2025 Boise State Broncos.
Boise State football and the Mountain West have been a great partnership over the years. Ever since Chris Petersen helped lead them into this conference, the Broncos have had a ton of success. Yet, it seems in this world of endless conference realignment, nothing gold – or blue and orange, I guess – can stay. Boise State is off to the Pac-12 in 2026, a conference which somehow did not expire in this latest round of FBS reshuffling. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to see it back, but the poor MWC is going to get screwed.
That is what we like to call “not Boise State’s problem” in 2026, but what is their problem in 2025 is that they are missing their best player as they try to repeat as conference champions.

Best Game on the Schedule in 2025
October 4 at Notre Dame. The Broncos never got a crack at the Irish in the College Football Playoff last season, so they will have to settle for an October road game in Indiana. This is the best opponent on their schedule by a wide margin.
2025 Boise State Broncos: Outlook
How do you replace a talent like Ashton Jeanty? I’m not sure you do. His final stats from 2024 were staggering: 2,601 rushing yards, 29 rushing touchdowns, and then throw in another 138 receiving yards with a touchdown through the air. Not to take anything away from the rest of the offense, but that’s a lot of production for which he was responsible, and maintaining that top-five offensive ranking in 2025 is going to be difficult.
Quarterback Maddux Madsen will be back, and he’s a fine player. He and the rest of his team will need to step up to fill the void. Malik Sherrod appears to be Jeanty’s replacement; injury kept him off the field for most of last season, but he was on his way to another productive campaign – just not one as productive as the guy he is replacing. Boise State is going to have to get the yardage from somewhere, so they will be leaning on Madsen, Sherrod, and of course a stout offensive line.
You would be well within your rights to expect Boise State to be good. Outside of Notre Dame, which would be a tough game regardless of where it could have been played, there’s not a single team that the Broncos can’t take. The question remains if there will be a drop-off from last year. I would think some, hence they are at number 27, but another 10-win season is a distinct possibility as they prepare to exit the MWC.
