2019 College Football Bowl Projections

The goal: playing in December or January.

There are many websites where you can find 2019 college football bowl projections, but of all of them, this is one of them.

78 teams will be fortunate enough to get into bowl games this season. About six or seven of those games will matter, and a few teams in the ones that don’t may be below .500 at the end of the regular season. However, if your team is one of those making a bowl, any bowl, it will be a time to celebrate, even if in a meaningless exhibition.

The holiday season means bowl games, and we predict who will make each and every one from now until Championship Saturday.

To keep up with who we rate as the best (and worst) teams in college football in 2019, check out our CFB 130. Please note that we also track the College Football Playoff bracket (and add our own twist) each week. The below are projections while the CFB Playoff link contains the official rankings.

2019 College Football Bowl Projections: Final Projections

We have 79 eligible teams and only 78 teams qualifying; we have determined that Kent State is the least likely to make a bowl, and that either way, the MAC will be the conference with a snub.

This is based on LSU leaping back over Ohio State as a result of the quality and depth of LSU’s win over Georgia.

Utah remains afloat enough to get a NY6 bowl, with Florida being another at-large team. Memphis will be the Group of Five representative to the Cotton Bowl. Alabama will not make the NY6.

Iowa fell a few more spots than they should have because of bowl agreements stipulating different teams rotating into these games every few years.

Almost every Power Five conference will fall short of filling all of their bowl bids. This has opened the door for a number of Group of Five teams to work in; the trick is finding matchups that are not obvious lopsided contests.

2019 College Football Bowl Projections: The Bottom Line, November 10

For being the middle of November, it’s still a challenge finding 78 teams to fill these slots. As it stands right now, there could be two or even three teams at 5-7 in these games, and you can look at the most recent APR to figure out who those will be.

As of now, we have two SEC teams in the College Football Playoff, which we do not expect to last. Should Alabama lose just one game, it will be to LSU. If Georgia has just one loss, it would be to South Carolina, even if they are SEC champions. Then what do you do with LSU? These are too many what-ifs for November 10, and it’s not that big of a deal right now.

2019 College Football Bowl Projections: The Bottom Line, November 24

Our current estimation is that there will be no 5-7 teams getting in based off of their APR, as we think enough bowl-eligible teams will manifest themselves over the final week. A 5-7 Boston College would be the likely first-in-line to get a bid.

Utah is our fourth team in the College Football Playoff, because we expect LSU to beat Georgia in the SEC Championship. A two-loss, non-champion Georgia is not getting in the field, but a 12-1 Pac-12 champion Utah just might.
