2018 Alamo Bowl: Teams, Facts, and Pick

Remember the Alamo (Bowl).

The 2018 Alamo Bowl is on its way, and either the Pac-12 or Big 12 will pick up a win.

More specifically, either Washington State or Iowa State will. For the Huskies, this bowl is probably something of a disappointment given that they led the Pac-12 North almost until the very end. Blowing the game against Washington kept them from the Rose Bowl, so this is their consolation prize.

As for Iowa State, this season was a bit unexpected in a good way. They climbed into a third-place tie in the Big 12, and landing here is a pretty solid result. Regardless, both took different paths to the same place.

2018 Alamo Bowl: Pick

The better offensive team is for certain Washington State. Gardner Minshew has been a find for the Cougars and helped power them into a 10-win team. Aside from coming up short in the conference, this season blew past expectations and it’s a testament to Mike Leach and company how far they got. Despite being a Big 12 team, the Cyclones are no match for the Cougs offensively.

Where the Clones do stack up is on defense, and considering some of the offenses they have faced this season, those statistics above are notable. Expect that they will be able to keep the game within reach, at least for a little while. Could it be, however, that Washington State just has too much offense?

The last time we saw Wazzu, they got shut down in the snow. That’s not how this group wants to go out, and it would be surprising to see it.

Pick: Washington State
