2017 18 College Basketball Predictions: The Conference Champions
That’s a lot of tickets to punch for the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
A month or two ago, you were on the beach. Now, enough of the year has sufficiently elapsed to necessitate the 2017 18 college basketball predictions.
Within a month from the day of this publication, the season will have started. ‘Tis the season for North Carolina and Kentucky playing The School of the Blind. That’s early season, non-conference basketball, but many big games await.
Over 30 conferences select champions via postseason tournament. Because the Ivy League gave into temptation like J. Peterman and “Susie,” all conferences give their automatic bids to the tournament winner. Our objective today: pick all 32 conference winners. In case you could not tell, the organization is alphabetical.
However, this is a double-dip prediction article. Not only will we predict the conference tournament winners, but also the top five regular-season order of finish. That’s right: for all 32 conferences. Such is our love for college basketball and you the fans.
Someday soon, the college basketball bracketology will be updated. Not too soon, however.
2017 18 College Basketball Predictions: America East
Preseason Poll Pick: Vermont.
Now, it would be hard for Vermont to replicate their 2016-17 season, but even if not, they’re starting in a good spot. The Catamounts went 16-0 in America East play, with Stony Brook, Albany, and New Hampshire trailing. Albany figures to be a major contender, and those teams figure to be one-two. Its regular-season results could be determined January 24 and February 8 when the Catamounts and Great Danes meet.
Ultimately, regardless of the regular season, we’ll take the champs to repeat. Conference Tournament Winner: Vermont Catamounts.
2017 18 College Basketball Predictions: American
Preseason Poll Pick: Cincinnati.
My basketball people keep saying “Wichita State! Wichita State!” (We don’t have basketball people, but if they did, they’d be saying Wichita State.) They are newcomers to the American, but their upward mobility doesn’t mean they’ll be any less good. This was an excellent team last season that looks comparable in 2017. Look out for this squad playing in a better conference. Conference Tournament Winner: Wichita State Shockers.
