2017 Wimbledon Finals Brackets: Back To The Future
Turning back the clock at Wimbledon with Venus and Fed.
Roger Federer and Venus Williams rose to the top of their 2017 Wimbledon finals brackets, which seems like familiar territory.
Between 2003 and 2012, Federer won the men’s singles tournament seven times. Meanwhile, Venus Williams is a five-time Wimbledon winner, her titles coming between 2000 and 2008. A decade or so ago, these players owned Wimbledon, and we’re heading that way again.
48 hours from now, both could be Wimbledon champions once more. Federer and Williams are the favorites going into the men’s and women’s finals, respectively. The clock is turned back at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Not that 35-year old Federer wouldn’t have gotten there on his own, but he got help. Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal all went bust. He did not have to face any of them, though Milos Raonic and Tomas Berdych aren’t exactly easy matches. In theory, anyway: Federer won them both in straight sets.
This looks a lot like the Federer of old, already an Australian Open champion this year. All-time, Federer is 6-1 against Marin Cilic, his final Wimbledon opponent this year. Federer and Cilic met at Wimbledon last year, with Federer winning the quarterfinals match in five sets.
