POLLS: 2017 American League Division Champions
One’s a runaway, two aren’t.
The second half beckons, and before it ends, we’ll have three 2017 American League division champions.
In addition to two wild cards, that’s five postseason teams. One of them goes to the World Series, but at least three get to say they won the East, Central, or West.
Some divisions make it obvious. The American League West, for example, is a runaway. It’s not so clear-cut a picture in the others. Who will win these divisions?
2017 American League Division Champions: AL East
The Yankees (45-41) led the way for quite a while, but their last 25 games have been a nightmare. Now, the Boston Red Sox (50-39) have the lead, but it’s just 3.5 games. Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Rays (47-43) are surprising the league at only 3.5 back themselves. In fact, Tampa Bay would be the second AL wild card if the season ended today.
Baltimore (42-46) and Toronto (41-47) are both within ten games, but the O’s in particular look terrible. Toronto should be better than they are, but they’re not.
