2017 Roland Garros Update: Nadal Cruising
The brackets are narrowing down.
The 2017 Roland Garros French Open is into its third and fourth rounds, and a few key players stand out.
Color nobody surprised if Rafael Nadal wins again. He’s well on his way in the men’s singles draw. Meanwhile, on the women’s side, the defending champ is on the rise. Yet, it remains as open a field as any in a Grand Slam.

2017 Roland Garros Men’s Draw
In the men’s singles draw, nine-time champion Rafael Nadal is kicking cul and taking names. Specifically, taking names off the board. In his win over Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia on Friday, Nadal lost only one game in a straight-set blowout. The king of clay is living up to his billing.
Nadal’s opponent in the fourth round is Roberto Bautista Agut, the 17th seed. The two Spaniards have met only one before, on clay, and not surprisingly, Nadal won in straight sets.
Novak Djokovic was pushed to the five-set limit in a third-round win over Diego Schwartzman. The Argentinian sent Djokovic down two sets to one, but the world number two cruised in sets 4 and 5 to win. He next faces Albert Ramos-Vinolas, against whom he hasn’t lost a set in three matches. Two of them were on clay.
Perhaps most impressive so far is Stan Wawrinka, who is into the fourth round with no set losses yet.
