2017 Women’s College World Series Bracket

The Gators could chomp their way to the title.

The 2017 Women’s College World Series kicks off tomorrow. What are the paths for the eight teams?

Florida, the top team in the nation, enters this bracket as the team to beat. Yet, other fierce contenders like Oregon, UCLA, and Texas A&M have a chance at the championship. But who can forget Oklahoma, the defending national champs?

2017 WCWS Bracket

Two brackets operate side by side, and the winners of each meet in the championship series. The winners of the bracket quarterfinals move on to a semifinal round. Then, unlike most other sports, a loser’s bracket forms. The quarterfinal losers meet and that victor gets a second chance. In fact, the semifinal loser gets a second chance as well. Just keep winning, that’s what I say.

Florida enters the WCWS with the best ERA in the nation by far at 0.69. One would imagine a team that allows hardly any runs is the favorite. Oregon is the next best among WCWS teams at 1.33. Meanwhile, Oregon also has one of the top batting averages in the nation at .327.

The Gators boast the nation’s best pitcher, Kelly Barnhill, and her 0.36 ERA. She allowed just nine runs in 173 ⅔ IP; not bad for a sophomore.
