The National Hockey League is down to its elite eight, and the 2017 NHL second round playoff schedule is out.

None of the NHL’s first round series went the distance, making this reveal possible sooner. What we might not have expected were some of the teams here.

St. Louis probably never figured to have home ice advantage in the second round, and yet, here they are. Ottawa also might have expected to play their nearby rivals Montreal, but instead, they draw the Rangers. Both of those could be long series.

The second round of the playoffs begin on Wednesday, and could go as late as Thursday, May 11.
