The Xavier Musketeers: Not Missing The NCAA Tournament

[lead align=”default”]The Xavier Musketeers entered their Big East quarterfinal game against Butler having sunk onto the NCAA Tournament bubble. They left it with a much clearer picture.[/lead]

Xavier triumphed tonight over the Butler Bulldogs, 62-57, to go to the Big East semifinals. They will face either Creighton or Providence tomorrow. Just as importantly, the Musketeers iced their position beyond this weekend.

Make no mistake, things were back for Xavier for a little while. They lost six in a row, and their only two wins prior to tonight were DePaul. Xavier required a signature win to get back on track, and luckily for them, Butler was handing them out tonight.

Xavier Musketeers: The Resume

21-12 (9-9 Big East)
RPI (as of earlier today): 34
SOS (as of earlier today): 9
Non-conference SOS: 17
Road/neutral wins: 8
Quality wins (RPI Top 50): Butler, Creighton, Wake Forest, Seton Hall
Bad losses (outside RPI Top 100): None
Current disposition: In, 10 seed

Had they not had that nasty losing streak, their position would have been secured a while ago. The Xavier Musketeers were ranked much of the year, if you recall. It’s only recently that Xavier hit the skids, but after two warm-ups against DePaul, they found the big win they needed. The Musketeers have sealed their bid.
