2017 Sun Belt Tournament Bracket

Those are the UT-Arlington Mavericks, regular-season champions of the Sun Belt. They’ve won their regular-season title a few times, but only have one tournament appearance in 2008 to show for it. This would be a good time to grab their second, as they were the Sun Belt’s best team almost all year.
If this were solely a decision based on RPI rather than a tournament, UT-Arlington would far and away be the champion. Theirs is in the mid-30s, and for a Sun Belt team, they played a good schedule. While losing to Minnesota and Arkansas, they beat Saint Mary’s and Texas. Because of their conference, however, they wouldn’t be a serious contender for an at-large if they lose. Their strength of schedule is too weak, and only one Top 50 win doesn’t help.

The Mavericks lost in-conference to UL-Lafayette, Troy, Coastal Carolina, and Texas State. They might see Texas State in the semifinals, but they could get the Chanticleers in the quarters. Lafayette or Troy wouldn’t cross their path until the finals.
Speaking of the Ragin’ Cajuns, they’re on a roll, winning six in a row entering the tournament. UL-Monroe and App State are certainly the weakest teams in the field; if they make any noise at all, it will be a huge shock.
