Bowl Picks: 2016 Military Bowl

The American champion Temple Owls meet the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Both programs have had eventful 2016s in their own ways.
When it comes to Temple, they open the season getting smoked by Army and then they end up winning their conference. It was because they won the conference that they lost their coach, Matt Rhule. He’ll be in charge of rebuilding Baylor, but for now, Ed Foley coaches the bowl game.
Temple’s big year is as a result of something good. Wake Forest’s looked like it could have been a great story, but it will be remembered for only one thing. Just a few weeks ago, the school announced that they had a mole: radio color commentator Tommy Elrod. A former Wake player and coach, Elrod allegedly disclosed confidential gameplan information since joining the broadcast booth. Nobody knows for sure if he intentionally sandbagged the coach who let him go or he had other motivations, but “Wakeyleaks” hit this program hard.
Aside from the Elrod unpleasantness, Wake’s six wins this season weren’t that good in terms of quality. Maybe he’s the reason why the only bowl team they beat was Indiana. But seriously, Wake is about as mediocre a team as there is.

2016 Military Bowl: The Edge
Wake Forest is one of those all of one thing, none of the other teams. They have a decent defense and a terrible offense. Temple, on the other hand, has a very good defense and a passable offense. It’s likely Wake’s going to have trouble just scoring, which is why you have such a mismatch here. At least, it’s a potential mismatch. Temple is a much better team on paper and even without their coach, you have to like their odds.
