Bowl Picks: 2016 Armed Forces Bowl

[lead align=”default”]In honor of our armed forces, there’s a bowl game, and this 2016 Armed Forces Bowl features one of its branches.[/lead]

The Navy Midshipmen are that team, and they’re looking for a fourth bowl victory in a row. They face the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in Fort Worth on Festivus.

The journey of the Mids through this 2016 season is well-known. They got back on the map by beating Houston. Then, after climbing the rankings, they fell back with a loss to USF. Finally, with a division title in hand and a chance to win the American, they got blasted by Temple. For good measure, they followed it up with their first loss to Army in 15 years. Needless to say, Navy is not entering this game with a burst of momentum.

Louisiana Tech isn’t, either. At one point, the Bulldogs won seven in a row, but then lost to Southern Miss and fell to Western Kentucky in the C-USA title game. They book-ended it with losses, but they damn near had Arkansas beat in Week 1.

2016 Armed Forces Bowl: The Edge

Navy is without its quarterback, Will Worth, and turns again to Zach Abey. Hopefully he’ll look better with a few more weeks experience under his belt. Nevertheless, Navy isn’t known for its passing game, that’s for sure. It’s triple option all the way, and Louisiana Tech’s run defense is pretty good. The triple option isn’t something LT sees much, and few run it better than Navy.

These are two of the most prolific offenses in the nation by the numbers. It’s time to see just how good LT’s run defense really is.
