Week 14 NFL Gameday: Beginning of the End
[lead align=”default”]The National Football League’s regular season is nearly done, and Week 14 NFL gameday means a number of critical contests involving potential playoff teams.[/lead]
Whether you’re in the NFC East or the AFC West, and any division in between, many playoff berths remain for the taking. Only one of the twelve slots is filled, and while only a few more might be today, so much remains at stake.
Several games today have playoff implications for both teams involved. Others, perhaps just one of the teams. One thing is for sure: if you’re a middle of the road team, you have to start that final push today.
Week 14 NFL Gameday: Clinching Scenarios
The New England Patriots can clinch the AFC East under either of these scenarios:
1. A win (vs. BAL) AND Miami loss or tie (vs. ARI)
2. A tie (vs. BAL) AND Miami loss (vs. ARI)
The New England Patriots can clinch a first-round bye under this scenario:
1. A win (vs. BAL) AND Miami loss or tie (vs. ARI) AND Pittsburgh loss or tie (at BUF)
The Dallas Cowboys can clinch the NFC East under this scenario:
1. A win (at NYG)
The Dallas Cowboys can clinch a first-round bye under either of these scenarios:
1. A win (at NYG) AND Detroit loss or tie (vs. CHI)
2. A win (at NYG) AND Seattle loss (at GB)
The Dallas Cowboys can clinch home-field advantage under this scenario:
1. A win (at NYG) AND Detroit loss or tie (vs. CHI) AND Seattle loss (at GB)
The Seattle Seahawks can clinch the NFC West under either of these scenarios:
1. A win (at GB) AND Arizona loss or tie (at MIA)
2. A tie (at GB) AND Arizona loss (at MIA)
Week 14 NFL Gameday: Denver at Tennessee
Two things get accomplished in this game in Nashville. First, we find out if Denver can keep up with the two heavy hitters in the AFC West. Second, we learn if the Titans are legitimate contenders in the AFC South.
Tennessee’s record says they are at 6-6, tying them for first place. Yet, the Colts and Texans play each other today, so someone (likely) goes to 7-6. The Titans need to keep up and emerge from the logjam.
Week 14 NFL Gameday: Seattle at Green Bay
Green Bay put themselves in a situation where they must run the table. Even if they do that and get to 10-6, it may not be enough. Yet, the only alternative is to give up, and we may see tonight that the Pack aren’t ready to do that.
Seattle is a tough out no matter where the game is played. They’re certainly a more dangerous team at home, but it’s not like the Seahawks can’t pick off good teams on the road. They have, and may again. Seattle runs into a team that has to have this game, while if the Seahawks win, it’s likely over in the NFC West.
Week 14 NFL Gameday: Dallas at New York Giants
The game of the weekend comes on Sunday night in what promises to be lousy northern New Jersey weather. When it comes to the home team, they get back their third-down back, Shane Vereen, but they lost JPP last week. That’s very bad news for the Giants, who are trying to keep in the NFC East race.
Any NFL fan knows what the Dallas Cowboys have done this season. They’re the first team in the playoffs and hope to win their first Super Bowl in 20 years. Perhaps they’re the favorite after their 11-game win streak, but this is a big game to see how long their roll can go.
