NHL Metro Division: 1 Prediction on Every Team
[lead align=”default”]The 2016-17 NHL season is less than a week away; time to put our necks on the line regarding the Metro Division.[/lead]
The Stanley Cup champions reside in this division, which figures to be competitive again this season. Will the Penguins repeat as champions? Will another team, like the Washington Capitals or New York Rangers, dismiss them? After all, the Caps did win the division last season.
We offer one prediction for each team. It may or may not be what you want to hear, but our track record on these things isn’t great.
NHL Metro Division Predictions: Carolina Hurricanes
Carolina waits patiently for their next playoff appearance, and despite a good young core, it’s not going to be this year, either. They won’t miss by all that much, but they’ll miss, though it will be a marginally better season in 2016-17.
NHL Metro Division Predictions: Columbus Blue Jackets
Here’s your last-place team in the Metropolitan Division. In a bonus second prediction, Sergei Bobrovsky will rebound nicely from his dreadful 2015-16, though the wins and losses may not mirror his improvement.
NHL Metro Division Predictions: New Jersey Devils
The Devils get close to, but do not make, the playoffs. Cory Schneider’s solid season isn’t enough.
NHL Metro Division Predictions: New York Islanders
The Islanders are a playoff team once again and will threaten for the division title if everyone remains healthy.
NHL Metro Division Predictions: New York Rangers
Some people say the Rangers won’t make the playoffs. Before they made some moves, that looked reasonable. Behind Henrik Lundqvist, Ryan McDonagh, Mats Zuccarello, Mika Zibanejad, and even Jimmy Vesey, the Rangers get into the field. In fact, their point total will be in the 90s, though they may not finish top three.
NHL Metro Division Predictions: Philadelphia Flyers
Shayne Gostisbehere exceeds his 46 points from last season, which helps them into the playoffs and makes both wild cards from the Metro.
NHL Metro Division Predictions: Pittsburgh Penguins
Your Metropolitan Division champion, and probably the President’s Trophy winners. Are they going to win the Cup? That would be a third prediction; not going that far.
NHL Metro Division Predictions: Washington Capitals
Most likely the second place team in the Metropolitan Division, and not surprisingly, they will not win the Stanley Cup this season.
