College Football Gameday, Week 5: Playoff Quarterfinals

[lead align=”default”]On this college football gameday Saturday, several teams find themselves in veritable Playoff quarterfinals.[/lead]

When you’re in the top ten, even in Week 5, games against other good teams are a big deal. Teams like Michigan and Louisville can both cement their position in their conferences and the College Football Playoff. Others, like Wisconsin and Clemson won’t make it easy.

Here are some of the best games to watch as you vegetate on the couch:

College Football Gameday: Wisconsin at Michigan

The Badgers just wiped the floor with the Wolverines’ hated in-state rival, and now try to sweep the Great Lakes State. Jim Harbaugh’s group shows little in terms of weakness, but Wisconsin faced a much tougher schedule to date. Battle-tested Bucky heads to the Big House in this important Big Ten battle.

College Football Gameday: Tennessee at Georgia

Georgia’s playoff hopes took a major hit last week, and Tennessee can end them with a victory.

The Vols went in the opposite direction after dumping Florida in Week 4. By taking this road game, Tennessee has a chance at putting a vice grip on the SEC East. The Bulldogs have been shaky at times but capable of rising to the challenge in others. Meanwhile, Tennessee looks like they’re just getting warmed up for better things.

Which Georgia team shows up today is key not just to deciding the game, but the path of the divisional race.

College Football Gameday: Louisville at Clemson

Possibly the highest-profile game of the week. Number three against number five at Death Valley, and if Louisville wins, the ACC Atlantic is much closer to being theirs. Not to mention, their odds of actually being a playoff team improve dramatically.

Clemson has to have this one to show that they can rise to last year’s level and contend. Even though they’re a top five team, many aren’t believing it right now.
