Week 5 Bowl Projections: 3 Teams You Can Expect In A Bowl
[lead align=”default”]This week, as we update the bowl projections, it’s becoming clearer which formerly fringe teams could find their way to a bowl.[/lead]
Sure, Alabama, Ohio State, and Louisville are bowl-bound. A few of them may be playoff bound, as a matter of fact. We’ll get into five specific bowl projections in a moment, but first, there are three teams we expect to become bowl eligible this season.
On the Road to Six: Wake Forest
At 4-0, it’s highly likely Wake is getting to a bowl. The only thing that could ruin their hopes is taking in the ACC. Syracuse, Virginia, and Boston College are all winnable games. Army is as well, but as you will shortly see, another team might need that one.
Should they defeat NC State on Saturday, it’s practically guaranteed.
On the Road to Six: Eastern Michigan
EMU was 1-11 last season. That we’re even bringing them up as a potential bowl team is quite impressive.
At 3-1 now, they need just three more wins. Bowling Green, Ohio, Ball State, Miami-Ohio, and Northern Illinois are all very winnable contests. Their toughest remaining games, all in MAC play, are Toledo, Central Michigan, and Western Michigan.
On the Road to Six: Army
Had the Black Knights won last week at Buffalo, it would have been a near certainty. Now, one cannot help but recall Army West Point’s recent history in regard to these matters. As in, failing miserably at qualifying for a bowl. However, there is no doubt that this Army team appears much better than in previous seasons.
At 3-1, they’re already half-way home. They have two games against FCS teams that they should win against Lafayette and Morgan State. Operative word: should. That leaves one more game, and North Texas could be it, though the Mean Green can keep up with average teams. Let’s not count on a win against Navy just yet. It’ll be tight if they get there, but this team has a shot.
