NFL Team of the Week: Week 1
[lead align=”default”]Our first NFL team of the week should not have been in a close game, but did something about it.[/lead]
Several teams took victories of note in the lead-off weekend for football. Amongst them were the Pats, Chiefs, Giants, Raiders, and Lions, all 1-0 on the young season. Some were expected to get there, and some weren’t. Which took the fairest win of them all?
Week 1 NFL Team of the Week: Honorable Mentions
New York Giants. The 2015 Giants would have blown that game against Dallas. I say that because they did. In fact, Big Blue lost five games last season in which they led well into the fourth quarter. On Sunday, they finished what they started and banked a 20-19 win over the Cowboys. The Giants are stacked at wide receiver and could be an NFC East contender.
Oakland Raiders. Trailing by one on the road, the Raiders just scored a touchdown and had a choice. One, take the extra point and go to overtime, or two, go for two and the win. Jack Del Rio showed his massive set of onions by going for two, and the Raiders won in New Orleans. This is (probably) not the same lousy Raiders team of years past.
New England Patriots. Nobody, including this site and with the exception of the Patriots, thought 1-0 was in the Cards (pun intended) for New England. Then out comes Jimmy Garoppolo, suave and poised, and he leads the Pats to a 23-21 win. Yeah, New England is going to be fine without Tom Brady.
