College Football Picks #1: South Carolina at Vanderbilt (-3.5)
Thursday, 8pm ET (ESPN)
This is the first game on the 2016 schedule to feature two power conference teams, and that conference is the SEC.
Some would argue that the Gamecocks tanked after the Head Ball Coach quit in the middle of last season, but they were already on their way there. In spite of that, South Carolina made a habit of losing close games in 2015. Five of their defeats were by seven points or less, including the last game they played to date, a loss against #1 Clemson.
The Gamecocks met Vandy last season and prevailed over the Commodores, which was their seventh win in a row in the series. In 2016, Will Muschamp leads South Carolina against Vanderbilt, and both schools are expecting lean years. In a situation like this, you go with the home team.
