2017 College Football Bowl Game Predictions: New Orleans Bowl
Troy (Sun Belt) vs. North Texas (C-USA)
Bowl game number one of the season features Troy and North Texas. The Trojans had another great year out of the Sun Belt, while North Texas is the most unassuming 9-win team you’ll see in college football this year. Sun Belt co-champs Troy didn’t get blown out all year; North Texas got smoked by each superior team they faced except perhaps Army. Troy has a much better defense; this is why the Trojans are favored. North Texas, however, has the C-USA first-team quarterback, Mason Fine. Prediction: Troy wins
2017 College Football Bowl Game Predictions: Cure Bowl
Western Kentucky (C-USA) vs. Georgia State (Sun Belt)
Conference USA got plenty of teams into bowls; this one, Western Kentucky, is the favorite here. They face Georgia State, a 6-5 squad under first-year coach Shawn Elliott. WKU isn’t any better at 6-6 with their own new coach. We’re not talking about great defenses here, so Mike White and the Tops offense should have a good day. Prediction: Western Kentucky wins
2017 College Football Bowl Game Predictions: Las Vegas Bowl
Oregon (Pac-12) vs. Boise State (MWC)
Oregon is the major-conference team without a coach, while Boise State is the well-known Group of Five program that’s no stranger to bowl wins. The Ducks are a fine offensive team, but on a pure gut feeling pick, we’ll go the other way. Prediction: Boise State wins
2017 College Football Bowl Game Predictions: New Mexico Bowl
Marshall (C-USA) vs. Colorado State (MWC)
A couple of 7-5 teams get together out in Albuquerque for the New Mexico Bowl. Marshall lost four of their last five games, all of them to teams with winning records. None of them were particularly bad losses, but declining offense was one of the issues. Colorado State is much better in that department, averaging 34 points per game. The Rams also had some issues with losing towards the end of the year. It also so happens that the Thundering Herd have a better defense, and if defense wins championships, it wins bowl games. Prediction: Marshall wins
2017 College Football Bowl Game Predictions: Camellia Bowl
Arkansas State (Sun Belt) vs. Middle Tennessee (C-USA)
Arkansas State was one of the Sun Belt’s best in 2017, while Middle Tennessee barely got into a bowl game. That won’t matter when the game is played, but it’s worth noting how they got here. Defensively, you’ll see some statistical similarities, but when it comes to offense, the Red Wolves are powerful. Justice Hansen, Arkansas State’s first-team All-Sun Belt quarterback, can lead his team to victory. Prediction: Arkansas State wins
