North Carolina Are The 2017 College Hoops National Champions

The North Carolina Tar Heels flipped the script from last season, taking the 2017 college basketball national championship.

In the first half, the two teams traded runs, but Gonzaga had the upper hand at the break. Both Gonzaga and North Carolina also had long stretches of doing absolutely nothing.

The boys in black and white were very busy throughout the game, and I ain’t talking about Gonzaga. Zach Collins fouled out at about the five-minute mark as part of a flurry of second-half fouls that had both teams in the bonus before the under-12 timeout. It seemed all downhill from the Zags thereafter, but they hung in there and kept the contest close.

As one would imagine, the Bulldogs and Tar Heels took frequent trips to the free throw line. Aside from North Carolina missing a bunch of them, both teams truly were dreadful in terms of shooting. That’s intended to be a general statement, not meant to imply that every single shot taken was terrible. Each school came in well under 40 percent from the floor, and trust me: it wasn’t all good defense.

Congratulations to North Carolina. Party time in Chapel Hill. We’ll remember better basketball games in our day but it was nevertheless a hard-earned title for the Tar Heels.
